Upgrade & Maintain Your Yacht

Maintenance

Many owners may sail their yachts in salt water, and this will mean some additional maintenance is required to protect metal and electrical components. Regular sailors will know that maintaining any yacht is critical to its performance and longevity, so read the attached “DF Maintenance Schedule” and “Protecting your Electrics”.

The Class Rules are set by the DF International Class Association (DFICA) and allow a keel patch to be attached to the outside of the hull for additional water protection. Templates are included in the Rules. It is strongly recommended that you apply this patch. When applying the patch and deck hatches, you must clean the deck area to remove any residue from the bearing lubricants and allow the patch adhesive to form a thorough seal. Most water ingress will be due to poor application of the patch and deck hatch covers.

The hull is manufactured involving Blow Moulding ABS plastic into the hull form. It is designed for a low hull weight for best performance, so it is important to not apply high force when fitting or removing parts.

Upgrade

The manufacturer and the DFICA make rule and manufacturing changes from time to time. The latest upgrade in 2025 involved many small production changes to improve tolerances and strengthen parts. Most of the upgraded parts are available to buy separately. If you wish to make modifications to your yacht, please review the Class Rules for compliance, or consult your local fleet members.

Expert Support for Every Sailor

Join in the fun from sailing socially with old and new friends to competing at State, National and World Championship regattas against the best sailors in the classes. There is plenty of support from the Australian DF Radio Sailing Association and the DF World Information Site where you will find plenty of helpful information to ensure you enjoy your sailing experience. The yachts are very well designed, sailing extremely well and have all the controls and tuning you would experience on a large racing yacht.
